the divide
Apr. 24th, 2014 11:38 amSomeday I really want to post about what fannish origfic really is. Because I still remember that debate full of people calling it a 'trend' and stating they don't see how it's any different to other original works. (Followed in swift succession by: wah I don't want to scroll past it, wah what do you mean it's no different to having to scroll past piles of fic for megafandoms you aren't interested in, wah it's totally different.)
And for ages since then I've been meaning to post about what fannish origfic means to me and how it is a Thing that is distinct from writing to publish, but the problem I'm having is putting all this into words that make sense. I mean, there's a lot of thoughts in here about intent and sharing and character archetypes and writing around the corners of your story (aka yes, origfic CAN be about laundry night for a superhero team if you want) but it's all thoughts and not so much words.
I wonder if it means anything to you?
